The West Towers were designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor and were built between 1722 and 1745. Very few images exist of the Abbey as it looked before the addition of the West Towers.

The towers are built in the Gothic style to match the 13th Century Gothic church. Hawksmoor was the Surveyor of the Fabric at Westminster Abbey after Christopher Wren held the position.
