Outline: During the day, participants will explore what writing for pleasure means, and how it can be realised as a much-needed pedagogy whose aim is to develop children, young people and their teachers as extraordinary and life-long writers. The approach is grounded in what global research has long been telling us are the most effective ways of teaching writing. There will be several hands-on interactive activities throughout the day and there will also be plenty of time allocated for Q&A at the end of each session. This event will be ideal for all who are committed to supporting children to become 'extraordinary and life-long writers'. Outcome: This Writing for Pleasure Leading Thinking Event has been carefully designed to support teachers to build communities of committed and successful writers who write with purpose, power and pleasure. The fourteen research-informed principles which constitute a 'Writing for Pleasure' pedagogy will be defined and discussed and shown how to be applied by teachers in classroom practice. This event will also explore how the skills of Writing connect to Reading, Maths and other areas of the curriculum in a memorable and enjoyable way. Audience: Headteachers, senior leaders, teachers and all who would like to learn more about the approach of 'Writing for Pleasure' and the impact it can have on learning in reading, writing and maths. Further Information: The event will take place at Rockingham Professional Development Centre on Friday, 21st March from 8:45 - 15:15, lunch is provided. Cost: £70 per delegate.
