Started 18 SeptRockingham Professional Development Centre

Service Description

APPLICATION FORMS AVAILABLE FROM rosis@rotherham.gov.uk - APPLICATION DEADLINE FRIDAY, 5TH SEPTEMBER The course is suitable for experienced TAs or HLTAs across all phases of education who are looking to gain the status including those working in Special Schools and other specialist settings. All applicants must be employed in a school and have the full support of their headteacher; be already demonstrating high levels of capability in their role in and out of the classroom; and have appropriate level 2 qualifications in English & Maths. Applicants without Level qualifications can be offered HLTA entry tests. Candidates must also have some experience of teaching whole classes without the presence of a qualified teacher. Teaching assistants who have limited experience of this may find that sufficient opportunities to teach classes can be arranged within the timescale of the programme. Headteachers will be asked to confirm that candidates have been or will be given these opportunities. The HLTA standards can be found on HLTA North’s website. Candidates must attend a preparation course, complete eight written assessment tasks, compile a portfolio of supporting documentary evidence, and submit these electronically to an assessor no later than four weeks after the final session of the programme. All assessments* are carried out online after portfolios have been submitted. An assessment comprises a series of interviews with the candidate and nominated colleagues. The assessor prepares for the assessment interviews following their scrutiny of the candidate’s documentation. Files then go through a moderation process via HLTA North and the outcome is issued about four weeks after moderation. Moderation event take place monthly. * Assessments are arranged by HLTA North on behalf the awarding body, HNAP, the HLTA National Assessment Partnership. The assessment fee, £450, is agreed nationally and is payable to the HLTA North. A course fee of £850, which includes the Assessment Fee*, applies. Subsidy for schools who are fully subscribing to RoSIS will be available once final numbers are confirmed. The course will take place at Rockingham Professional Development Centre from 9:30 – 15:30 on 18th September, 9th October & 13th November. Assessments portfolios will need to be submitted by 11th December (tbc) and the assessment window will be from 15th December - 24th January (tbc).
