Service Description

Middle/Subject Leader Development involving Peer Challenge and Support This course aims to develop knowledge, skills and confidence in leading sustainable improvement by understanding the construct of a high-quality curriculum, delivered through effective teaching for all pupils. This will include a sharp focus on inclusion and vulnerable pupils. Participants will be provided with guidance, models and a methodology to carry out their role as a middle leader effectively so that they can lead and check the impact of the curriculum; focusing on provision and impact for all pupils, especially disadvantaged pupils, those with SEND and other vulnerable groups. Participants will develop both their role and capacity as a leader. They will be enabled to build an evidence-based picture of subject quality and use these insights to improve the curriculum, teaching and the progress that pupils make. Session 1 - taking a critical look at curriculum planning based on a understanding of the construct of a high quality curriculum drawn from EIF and current thinking, research and theory. Wednesday, 11th November at Rockingham PDC from 13:00 – 15:30. Session 2 - investigating and getting a really sound picture of the implementation and impact of the planned curriculum through effective work scrutiny. Thursday, 3rd December at Rockingham PDC from 16:00 – 18:00. Session 3: investigating and getting a really sound picture of the implementation and impact of the planned curriculum through talking to pupils, talking to teachers and lesson visits. Thursday, 21st January at Rockingham PDC from 16:00 – 18:00. Sessions 4 and 5 - Reciprocal visits in participants’ schools to support, challenge and practise investigating the quality and impact of the curriculum. During these sessions, participants will practise using a shared methodology developed during sessions 1, 2 and 3 in their own and a professional partner’s setting. Session 6 - Feedback to the group on what has been discovered, changes made as a result and next steps – what actions are planned? Monday, 22nd March at Rockingham PDC from 16:00 – 18:00. Cost: One place per school for those accessing the Core Offer to RoSIS, additional places charged at £30 per person £219 per person for others.
