South Yorkshire RE Conference, hosted by Rotherham SACRE at Rockingham Professional Development Centre Wednesday, 29th January from 9:30 – 15:30 Deep and Meaningful RE: Inspiration and Excellence (in response to OFSTED’s latest RE report) Led by Lat Blaylock, hosted by Vanessa Gregory This one day conference will enable all primary teachers of RE to understand OFSTED’s latest thinking on RE from the subject report ‘Deep and Meaningful.’ The day will provide teachers attending with 15 excellent ideas for 4-11 RE which illustrate how pupils can be energised and inspired by RE. Taking ideas from Hindus, Muslims, Jewish people, Christians and non-religious worldviews, the day will show how progressed learning based on key concepts can enable learning at greater depth for all. There will be a focus on creative and thoughtful RE for all pupils, reflecting the need for the subject to encourage attitudes of respect for all and skills of personal reflection and critical thinking. Teachers will gain understanding of what makes a great RE lesson, and how to use a wide range of resources to give children authentic encounters with the worldviews/religions they study. Session 1: Diversity and respect - Authentic encounters with religion and worldviews: 5 fully resourced examples for 4-11 year olds. Session 2: Creativity and engagement – six ways to enable all pupils 4-11 to think for themselves and express their own views about the worlds of belief and values Session 3: Depth and standards: this session will provide examples of activities that can be used for assessing impact in RE for pupils aged 4-11 and referencing a wide range of worldviews. There will be an extensive selection of RE Today books and publications available at discounted prices to delegates. Cost: Schools and settings accessing the Core Offer to RoSIS have unlimited access, for others a delegate fee of £95 per person applies.
