Service Description

These sessions will be co-delivered with Sarah Davis, Subject lead for history, King Edward VII School, Sheffield. The core catch-ups are ‘repeats’ of subject leader sessions delivered in previous years in Rotherham, but not in Sheffield. They are additional to the termly network meetings which will have the same content in both Rotherham and Sheffield. Rotherham subject leaders may want to attend them. The first session will focus on practical approaches to the use of sources and evidence in the primary history classroom. Getting pupils working actively with sources and evidence is a key part of increasing their understanding of the discipline of history. Links will be made to current research and to frameworks including the National Curriculum and Ofsted. As outcomes of the session, subject leaders will know and understand: - How historians define sources and evidence and what the key types are - How and where to locate sources and evidence in curriculum and lesson design - What progress in pupils’ skills and understanding looks like and how to measure this The session will include practical ideas and resources for teaching to take away and adapt.
