There's a wealth of resources for educators of all ages, including assemblies, ideas for activities and resources too. It's well worth spending some time looking through what's on offer and deciding ahead of time how you would like to celebrate. Do this with plenty of time, so you can have impact.
Food for thought when planning your World Book Day...
You don't want World Book Day to be a one off day where you celebrate books - it should be an extra special day to celebrate within your school's reading culture.
If you decide to dress up for World Book Day ensure that the theme is inclusive and accessible for all families. You might consider how to support families with low cost ideas or have a theme which enables use of clothes already owned. For example in my school we are dressing up to explore National Year of Reading theme of 'Go All In' - children and staff are dressing to show their favourite hobby or something they are interested in. This will be a great way to get to know our children's interests in more depth, and in turn this supports us to make more meaningful text recommendations!
You may decide that dressing up takes away from the focus of the day, or that it's too much pressure for families.
