Non-Fiction November and

Empathy Action Month

Non-Fiction November with the National Literacy Trust

Why is non-fiction reading so important?

In 2022 The National Literacy Trust research the impact of children reading non-fiction texts. They that children and young people who read non-fiction are more engaged with environmental issues.

Overall, this report found that more children and young people who read non-fiction were motivated to read for educational purposes, to satisfy curiosities, to foster social connections and to support their mental wellbeing.

Empathy Action Month

November is Empathy Action Month! Empathy Lab do incredible work all year round. Let's celebrate this! Here's some words from Empathy Lab themselves...

What is Empathy Action Month?

Social action is an important part of empathy. When we take time to understand other people’s feelings and experiences, it spurs us on to act.

In other words, we put empathy into action. That means everyone coming together to improve each other's lives and solve problems that are facing their communities. This could be as small as actively listening to one another or as big as a whole-school litter pick.

Every November, we help young people focus on ways to make a difference, and reflect on the Empathy Resolutions we made for Empathy Day.

We want to encourage everyone to make every day an Empathy Day, and to keep taking steps to build a better, more empathetic world.
