While many animals have adapted to cope with the harsh conditions of winter, hedgehogs are one of only a handful of UK mammals to truly hibernate (along with bats and dormice). As autumn draws to a close, hedgehogs will be looking for somewhere warm and safe to hibernate, and you can help. This excellent guide from the Wildlife Trust shows you how to make a hedgehog house - a great project to do with children. It also contains lots of other useful information, including ways to boost the population of small invertebrates - a hedgehog's favourite food!
