Service Description

This one day course is precisely targeted at enabling teachers to do well informed and practical work on the progression model for RE in their own school. It’s for all schools, including those working with different Agreed Syllabuses. During the day you will be able to take draft model progression policies, which will be provided, and work on these to fit your own situation and needs. Presentations will include issues-based application of OFSTED’s latest research and examples of the kinds of tasks and outcomes that show progress in RE effectively. Presented by Lat Blaylock, RE Today national adviser, the course will draw on extensive national examples of good practice in learning about religions and worldviews and will cover: - Progression issues in RE: setting good standards, achieving good impacts. 60 minutes input and 30 minutes working in syllabus groups identifying issues for each LA. Examples of progression documents for exploration and reflection will be provided. - OFSTED’s perspectives and issues around sequencing, progress and ‘the RE taught curriculum as the assessment model’. 45 minutes input and 50 minutes working in groups on the progression model. - Examples of tasks and tests for progress: sticky rich knowledge, recall, retention, deployment. This session focuses on examples of tasks and pupil work. 40 minutes input, 50 minutes work in groups on syllabus, policy and documentation. Delegates are asked to bring their devices and current RE achievement policies with them to work on. Sample documentation that suggests ways to form policy into practice for different syllabuses will be provided. Teachers will be provided with a large set of samples of policies, examples of pupil work and tasks for successful progression in RE. The course will take place at Rockingham Professional Development Centre (Roughwood Road, Rotherham, S61 4HY) on Monday, 29th January from 9:15 - 15:45. Lunch is provided. RoSIS subscribing schools have unlimited access to the session, for non-subscribing schools the cost for this session is £95 per person.
