Service Description

The RoSIS Key Stage 1 Reading Fluency Project aims to accelerate achievement in reading fluency and comprehension in a short space of time. The project is aimed at pupils in year 2 whose reading achievement may be causing concern. The project runs as an eight-week intervention for a focus group of children. These pupils, on average, made 18 months progress in 8 weeks. The intention is that involvement in the project will improve achievement for all students, but that progress will be accelerated for the target group. Schools will need to select 6 children who fit the criteria below to form the target group. Children do not need to be selected before the launch day; further information about suitable choice will be given on that date. • working below the expected standard in reading currently and may not achieve EXS, particularly the statement relating to fluency • may have passed the PSC but presents with difficulty in reading fluency and / or comprehension. A teacher/teaching assistant who has attended training will then be expected to commit to working with this group of children for 20 to 30 minutes, twice a week over an 8-week period. Students will also need to be assessed at the beginning and end of the 8-week project. Participation in the project requires that you meet the time and staffing commitments outlined. RoSIS subscribing schools will have unlimited access to the programme. For non-subscribing schools the cost for the full programme is £195 per person. KS1 Reading Fluency Network Meeting. This session is for teachers who are currently or have previously taken part in the reading fluency project to meet and share best practice. Tuesday 7th November at RPDC from 16:00 - 17:00. KS2 Reading Fluency Network Meeting. This session is for teachers who are currently or have previously taken part in the reading fluency project to meet and share best practice. Thursday 2nd November at RPDC from 16:00 - 17:00. There is no additional cost for schools who have accessed the project previously to attend the network sessions, regardless of subscription status.
