Service Description

Preparation for Assessment Course leading to the Award of HLTA Status HLTA North will provide a course that enables TAs or HLTAs to prepare to be assessed against the national HLTA standards, leading to the award of HLTA status. The delivery of the programme will be over three days, at Rockingham Professional Development Centre and will include self-directed study and online support. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. Maxine Poutney, an experienced tutor with HLTA North, will lead the sessions, providing support and advice to candidates throughout the process. The course is suitable for experienced TAs or HLTAs across all phases of education who are looking to gain the status including those working in Special Schools and other specialist settings. All applicants must be employed in a school and have the full support of their headteacher; be already demonstrating high levels of capability in their role in and out of the classroom. Headteachers will be asked to confirm that candidates are working at the level of the HLTA standards and have appropriate level 2 qualifications in English & Maths, e.g. GCSE grade C and above or Adult Literacy and Numeracy. Applicants without Level qualifications can be offered HLTA entry tests. Candidates must also have some experience of teaching whole classes without the presence of a qualified teacher. Teaching assistants who have limited experience of this may find that sufficient opportunities to teach classes can be arranged within the timescale of the programme. Headteachers will be asked to confirm that candidates have been or will be given these opportunities. The HLTA standards can be found on the HNAP (HLTA National Assessment Partnership) website. Course fees of £800, which includes the Assessment Fee, apply. The course will take place at Rockingham Professional Development Centre from 9:15 – 15:30 on: • Thursday 11th January 2024 • Thursday 25th January 2024 • Thursday 29th February 2024
