Picture This! 2023

What is Picture This!?

We believe that Picture This! helps to inspire teachers to plan and teach creatively and each year we continue to be stunned by the wide range of high-quality work which is produced by our children and young people. We are certain this year will be no different and look forward to an amazing exhibition in the summer of 2023.

This year we will be studying a theme of "Light" and are focussing on artwork by Vincent Van Gogh, Verity Milligan and Bob Barker.

Light often describes the light source or light reflected within a piece of artwork. If there is light, there is shadow. In the same way light lifts a painting, it emphasises features through highlights and shadow and it brings depth. Using Van Gogh - Café Terrace at night, Bob Baker – Mono Chrome Paintings and Verity Milligan – Nature/light photography, we can be inspired by the way the artists have used light to bring their artwork to life.

How it works

Picture This! focuses on some artwork (one or more paintings) and schools are invited to use it as an inspiration for cross-curricular work.

The challenge is to use the artwork imaginatively in classrooms as a stimulus for working creatively in areas such as literacy, art history, ICT music, dance and drama.
